Asphalt Paving Foreman

Nelson River Construction is hiring a motivated Asphalt Paving Foreman for Paving Operations. 
Note: Start date for this position would be Mid May 2024.

The successful candidate must be willing to work out of town and at times in a camp environment.

The Position:

This is a skilled position requiring the incumbent to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in operating grading machinery and asphalt paving construction. This position will report directly to the Project Superintendent. This position demands professionalism and the ability to take responsibility to safely execute the work in a prompt and efficient manner and to ensure that all work completed meets the customer’s expectation of quality workmanship in safety, quality, environmental mindfulness, and site tidiness.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public
  • Maintain time and material records necessary to complete daily job costing
  • Directly supervise paving and grading employees
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all company policies and WorkSafe regulations for safe working procedures and environment
  • Perform daily hazard assessments with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies
  • Knowledge and experience for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of paver auger feed and automatic grade control systems
  • Operate paver and control asphalt to the paver safely and efficiently to mitigate mix segregation and support of screed personnel to maintain required asphalt thickness and smoothness requirements
  • Ability to discuss and plan daily project paving procedures/goals with fellow paving personnel to maximize productivity and workmanship
  • Check to make sure that equipment functions properly
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction-related duties as assigned, including physical labour.

Job Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a road construction foreman
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Thorough understanding of the construction industry including the knowledge to read and understand construction drawings
  • Must be able to run screed with automatics
  • Display a professional and courteous approach with co-workers, supervisors, and the public
  • Must be physically fit; repetitive bending, lifting, kneeling, walking for long periods of time
  • Problem-solving skills, timeliness, and pride in your work product are essential for success in this position
  • Working in inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
  • Required to work out of town and at times in a camp environment in remote locations
  • Punctual and able to work full time, overtime, and weekends as required.
